best propane gauge

A good propane gauge will ensure you never run out of gas when you need it most.

They do a lot more than tell you how much fuel you have left. They also give you a pressure gauge so you know exactly how much you can get out of your propane cylinder.

Not all gauges are the same. Here are 5 of the best propane fuel gauges to help you keep your gas grill going for as long as possible.

DOZYANT Propane Tank Gauge

Check it out here

The DOZYANT propane tank gauge offers a large dial to assess your propane level at a glance. In addition, level measurements are color coded(green for normal, yellow for low gas and red for quick reading) and take into account ambient temperature.

When it comes to temperature, the DOZYANT fuel gauge isn’t too fancy: it has three separate readings for cold, cool, and hot days. However, DOZYANT does not provide temperature ranges for all three readings, so YOU request which YOU want to use.

This is a little awkward and we don’t think it would have been difficult for DOZYANT to provide buyers with this type of information.

In terms of tank compatibility, the DOZYANT fuel gauge works with tanks up to 40 pounds with Type 1/QCC1 connectors. It should also work for most people.

We also like the brass construction on this propane tank gauge – it’s solid and should withstand abuse and the weather without issue.

Advantages:

  • Works with tanks up to 40 lbs.
  • Large dial with colour-coded temperature-based readings.
  • Durable construction.

Disadvantages:

  • Nothing really to mention.

Astor Propane Tank Gauge

The key feature of the Astor propane tank gauge is the extended stem. If you pay close attention, you’ll find that it’s considerably longer than our other picks. This doesn’t really affect performance and just makes the installation more convenient.

Like the DOZYANT gauge, this propane tank gauge works with tanks up to 40 pounds, so it should work for most people. Again, the plug is type 1.

The construction of the Astor fuel gauge is based on brass, like the DOZYANT gauge. However, the DOZYANT gauge feels a bit more solid.

Another area where the DOZYANT propane gauge is better is on the dial. The Astor instrument’s dial is quite small, and while we wouldn’t say it’s difficult to read, it’s not as convenient as the DOZYANT instrument’s dial.

The font color in the colored areas is also black, which makes it somewhat difficult to read. together the black writing and the small dial dialed this not too user friendly.

The readings also do not take air temperature into account, which means YOU may get inaccurate readings at very high or low temperatures.

Advantages:

  • Long stem makes installation easier.
  • Works with 40lb propane tanks.
  • Covered by a 12-month warranty.

Disadvantages:

  • The dial is quite small and doesn’t take air temperature into account.

Cuisinart CTG-200 Propane Tank Gauge

If you prefer to buy branded products, then the Cuisinart CTG-200 fuel gauge is probably a great option for you. It’s a bit more expensive than our previous picks and we wouldn’t really say its quality IS astronomically better, but overall it’s a good product from a trusted brand.

The highlight of the CTG-200 propane gauge is the easy-to-read dial. Although its face is not much larger than the face of the Astor fuel gauge, the color and size of the writing on the color-coded bars make it easy to read. Cuisinart was a lot more considerate than Astor in this area.

But again, unfortunately, you don’t get temperature-adjusted readings; for the price this is disappointing.

What’s also disappointing is that the CTG-200 is designed to operate with tanks up to 20 pounds. You could try pairing it with a larger tank, but it probably won’t work reliably.

Advantages:

  • Despite its modest size, the dial is quite easy to read.
  • Manufactured by Cuisinart, a trusted appliance brand.

Disadvantages:

  • Only works with tanks up to 20 lbs.

Camco Propane Tank Gauge

Check it out here

Camco’s propane gauge is quite expensive. With that, you can expect it to be more reliable and last longer. For heavy use, you probably won’t find anything better.

You’ll pay more for Camco’s fuel gauge, but in the long run you should be able to save money by not having to replace it as quickly.

Aside from the quality, what also stands out about this fuel gauge is the color-coded gauge, just like the DOZYANT gauge. It again has separate readings for hot, cold, and cold temperatures, which comes in handy if you use your grill regardless of the weather.

But here, too, Camco does not provide any temperature ranges for the measured values. Therefore, you will need to use this propane tank gauge a few times at different temperatures to determine which temperatures correspond to which gauge. This is annoying and could have easily been avoided if Camco had been more explicit in the product description or manual.

Advantages:

  • Color-coded readings with three sections for different temperatures.
  • Good build quality.

Disadvantages:

  • Expensive.

GASPRO Propane Tank Gauge

Check it out here

The GASPRO propane tank is an excellent option for certain gauges that are on a budget. This fuel gauge is similar to the previously reviewed Astor gauge but is priced a bit cheaper.

The GASPRO reservoir gauge has a long stem but appears slightly shorter than the Astor gauge. Still, it’s longer than most of our other picks and should make installation easier.

Again, this propane tank gauge will work with QCC1/Type 1 connectors. In terms of tank size, it’s rated for 5- to 40-pound propane tanks, so it should be fine for most people.

The face of this fuel gauge is almost identical to the face of the Astor propane gauge. It’s color-coded but doesn’t have readings for different temperature levels. Black writing indicating the purpose of each color makes reading the fuel level difficult. This shows once again how clearly Cuisinart has taken care to use white lettering on the green and red parts of the dial.

As for durability, we wouldn’t expect much from this fuel gauge. It IS WILL probably be the earliest of the identical fuel gauges in this top, but that IS not so unexpected considering the price.

Advantages:

  • Quite cheap.
  • Long shaft for easier attachment.
  • Works with tanks from 5 to 40 pounds.

Disadvantages:

  • The sheet is not easy to read.
