Grilla Grills Silverbac offers excellent temperature control in a solid barrel chamber. Available in three different models at different prices, there’s a lot to consider. Find out everything you need to know with our Silverbac pellet grill review.
Grilla Grills’ Silverbac pellet grill sees a return to horizontal garden stoves for the brand after the exclusive ‘Grilla’ range in 2010.
Just like a kitchen stove, backyard pellet smokers have PID controllers that regulate the temperature of the kitchen. They do this by measuring the heat level in the grate and changing the speed of the auger accordingly.
Pellet smoker grills have come a long way since their introduction in the late 20th century. How does Silverbac compare to its competitors? We want see.
Silverback grills come in three models: Pro, Alpha and Off-Road. The difference between these is mainly in the drivers. They have all the features that make them a great buy. Of course there will be differences that set them apart, but let’s take a look at the features you can expect.
Hopper
The 20-pound hopper on Grilla Silverback grills has a cleaning feature, also known as a pellet dump. If a grill is easy to reload, you’ll likely use it more often and more efficiently. A big enough funnel means you won’t have to refill as often. The top can also be used as a side table. It’s made of stainless steel, so it’s a good place to put your food while you prepare it for the grill.
The hopper capacity means you won’t have to refill pellets, even during long, steady cooks.
Cooking Area
The grill grates of the Grilla grills are made of stainless steel. This makes them easy to clean. Angeboat 488 square inch cooktop. Total cooking area is 692 square inches. The main cooking area measures 507 square inches while the top cooking area measures 185 inches. You can easily remove the top basket.
The grill’s heat deflectors are removable and located within the cooking chamber, allowing heat to be drawn evenly from the pan.
Temperature Controller
Silverbac has digital electronic temperature controls. The Alpha model features a dual-mode configuration, so the grill has a PID controller and a standard controller. However, the Silverback Pro only has the standard temperature controller.
To switch between the two modes, you only have to press one button. The good thing is that you can switch between modes even if you’re halfway through the cooking process. This makes it easy to use.
The PID controller may correct deviating values. As such, the Alpha model is often said to be more specifically the Silverback Pro model , as it kills the grill when it hits 110˚F. The grill will not even be allowed to exceed 615˚F.
This is known as a high temperature security system. The digital display shows you the meat sample and meat temperature, so you always know what’s going on.
In addition, there is a fan that controls the heat in the pot through optically placed holes. That and the set-it-and-forget-it digital control system help keep temperatures under control. The Silverback Pro allows larger temperature fluctuations. However, this means it’s not as accurate as the Alpha model. The fluctuations occur around the set temperature.
Cost
Most grills under $1000 tend to cut corners. However, these grills are below that cost and still come with features that will make it worth your while. The large pellet hopper and auger system also help reflect the grill’s running costs. Because the granules are constantly fed to the grill and there is no excess. Therefore nothing is wasted. This means you don’t have to keep buying new bags of granules.
Auger System
It is also economical in fuel consumption. Thanks to the auger system that regulates the speed at which dying pellets are fed. The auger system has a fence-like guard that keeps hands off the auger and prevents accidents. As soon as the grate is switched on, the auger rotates the feed pellets towards the grate slowly and at a constant speed.
The pellets then fall onto a burn path that is already hot and ready to burn the pellets. You can adjust the speed at which the auger system feeds the granules.
Building
This grill has an insulated cooking chamber that helps retain heat when you need it, regardless of the outside temperature. The funnel has a stainless steel lid that is both durable and easy to clean. It also has plenty of storage space in a closed storage cupboard just below the grill. Here you can store kitchen utensils and ingredients so that everything is within reach.
It has a good seal and does not let smoke escape.
User Friendliness
Both the Pro and the Alpha are very easy to use. The digital control panel makes it easy to set up and adjust settings. To turn it on, all you have to do is turn it on by pressing a single button. In addition, the auger system eliminates the need to manually feed pellets and guess how much is enough.
More highlights
Meat Probe
There is also a spot on the digital display where you can insert a meat sample. This will help YOU control the internal temperature of the meat as it cooks. No more guessing games.
Drip Tray Steep Angles
The drip tray is steeply angled, which helps you get rid of juice quickly during cooking.
Easy Ignition
This grill has an easy to read display with an unmissable power button. All you have to do is turn it on and then use the up and down buttons to set your desired temperature or your recipe. When you first turn it on, it will not be at 0°F. It displays the reading of the ambient temperature.
Grill Cover
It also comes with a weatherproof grill cover that can be used when the grill is not in use, modified to protect the grill from the elements and outside elements that might damage it.
Disadvantages
- The Silverback Alpha doesn’t produce as much smoke and therefore the smoke flavor is reduced as well.
- The standard moderate Silverback Pro controller is not as accurate as the Silverback Alpha controller.
- The Alpha is more expensive than the Professional.

- It produces more smoke, which means more flavor.
Silverback Alpha
- It’s yours
- It is a PID controller and a standard controller in one device.
