Disadvantages

The Camp Chef wood-fired pellet grill is a real eye-catcher for such a compact backyard kitchen. With the perfect blend of performance and aerodynamic design, there’s a lot to love here. It offers a sleek, compact design and durable construction for years of grilling enjoyment.

Cooking Area

The Camp Chef Woodwind Classic has an innovative double cooking surface that offers you two different grilling zones for direct and indirect grilling. This top and bottom configuration allows you to be flexible and quickly switch between grilling styles.

These non-stick grates provide a total of 570 square inches of cooking area to work with, which compares well to most pellet smokers.

The cooking space is large, giving you more cooking space than other models. Total chamber capacity is 4,850 cubic inches. With this amount of space, it’s easy to cook for a larger crowd. It offers plenty of room to play in its 24-inch grille, but it’s also available in 20-inch and 36-inch sizes.

The cooking box is not only spacious, but also has two levels on which you can cook. The top racks give you 382 square inches of cooking space, while the bottom rack measures 19.5 x 22 inches. In total you have 800 square centimeters of cooking surface, which is more than enough for more than three people. You can use this grill when you are entertaining and have enough food for everyone!

Meat Probes

It has four built-in meat probe ports that work hand-in-hand with the digital display, giving you an accurate reading of your meat’s internal temperature at all times. More probes and sensors generally mean a higher level of accuracy while installed, eliminating the need to open the chamber lid and let hot air escape.

PID Temperature Control

They are equipped with the patented Smart Smoke technology that maintains an ideal cooking temperature of 225 degrees. You can set your desired cooking temperature from 180 to 450 degrees in 5 degree increments. And they come with a built-in meat thermometer for added convenience. Plus, you don’t have to worry about running out of pellets as this grill features an automatic auger feed system that ensures you never run out of fuel.

One of the things that keeps this grill cooking consistently well is controlling the temperature. Unlike open flame cooking, which requires YOU to judge your eyes when you think the meat is cooked through, this feature gives YOU more control over the temperature. PID controller helps keep food temperature within +/-5˚F. It also helps control smoke.

The PID controller is precise and detailed. It’s industrial grade, giving you precise and accurate pricing so you can cook like a pro with minimal effort. The  smoke regulator  tells you how much smoke is being released. The higher the number, the more smoke is released. If you also set it to 8, you know that more smoke will be released than if it were set to 3. The lower number, the more settings the temperatures hold.

High Temperature Range

This is something a lot of people ask when it comes to grills. The Camp Chef Woodwind Pellet Grill reaches up to 500˚F. This is for indirect grilling and when you don’t need a lot of heat. Use high temperatures to generate more heat. This is generally used in cases where YOU need the smoky flavor. If you need to take it one step further, the camp cook’s woodwinds can reach 650˚F, using the direct heat of the pellets to sear a piece of meat.

It can reach high temperatures and still maintain good control. This is something you can overlook when using other types of grills that use direct heat and gas or wood. Temperatures on this grill range from 160˚F all the way up.

WiFi Control

This grill has WiFi connectivity which keeps it modern and up to date. But what does it mean to have WiFi connectivity on a grill? WiFi connectivity means you’ll always know how hot it’s getting as long as you’re connected to the internet. You can then control the smoke output level using the Camp Chef Connect app on your phone. With this app you can control the smoke on a scale from 1 to 10.

It’s convenient and you just need to be within WiFi range. WiFi control means you can control your grill from your couch and don’t have to go to the grill in person to check the constant progress. The app also allows you to control the smoke independently.

Building

It’s sturdy and built to stand outside. The combustion chamber is made of stainless steel, which is durable and easy to clean. In addition, stainless steel not only serves a practical purpose, but also looks good. As long as you keep it clean, you’ll always have a shiny grill that won’t rust.

You should clean the grill after each cooking session. In this way you preserve the integrity of the grill and the materials that compose it.

The grill stands on stable legs. Two of them have wheels so you can easily move the grill without straining your back. Meanwhile, the other two legs are stable and allow you to position the grill and make sure it doesn’t move. The legs measure 50mm and are strong enough to support the grill while you cook up a storm.

User Friendliness

Versatility is a big thing and one of the reasons people like smokers. You can use them for smoking, grilling, and al fresco baking while preserving the earthy, woody flavor of the smoke. It’s easy to use and the WiFi connectivity further enhances that quality.

The setup is very easy and you don’t need much experience. When you turn it on for the first time, it takes a while to reach the set temperature. Let yourself work at your own pace before loading up and cooking.

Sidekick

The Camp Chef Woodwind Pellet Grill is no one trick pony. He has a partner, which adds to his versatility options. The Companion is like another grill and smoker for the price of one. While traditional grills and smokers will have a function. The camp cook’s woodwind buddy gives you options.

It is a burner and IS supplied as a BBQ accessory. It runs on propane gas and connects easily to most Camp Chef grills. The Companion has 28,000 BTUs and is great for browning and grilling food. With the companion, YOU can do many kitchen tasks at the same time.

You can also cook over direct fire with the Companion. You can use a pot or other accessory to cook different food. For example, you can use an iron. The great thing about the companion is that it is compatible with various camping chef accessories.

More highlights

Efficient Ash Cleaning System

When cooking, ash is inevitable. This is where ash cleaning comes into play. There is an ash collector plate under the grill, which allows you to quickly empty it after each grilling session. The asian can be removed while cooking. It is not necessary to disassemble the entire grill to clean the ash.

On the side of the grill you will find a button that you simply have to pull. This releases the ash from the burn cup into a removable cup that YOU can then easily remove and empty. The knob provides an easy way to keep things clean and efficient.

Slide and Grill

This grill has a button on the side that has more than one purpose, removing the ash. Alternating between direct and indirect heat also helps. The twisting and pulling of the knob is done for you. There is a slotted drip tray that allows the flames to reach the bottom grates of the grill. This gives a variation in the way the flame and heat reach the meat.

Pull the grill knob to the left to move the deflector away from the pot and allow the heat to rise to the meat on the grill.

Digital Display

The Camp Chef Woodwind Pellet Grill features a full color digital display. This helps you easily monitor temperatures and details about your cooking process. The screen is easy to read and looks good too. What an outdoor grill can be doesn’t mean it has to be sturdy or sloppy looking.

To control the screen, turn and press the knob at the bottom of the screen. The grill has a flap that covers the screen for protection.

Grill Cover

Camp Chef offers a 24 inch grill cover that fits the Woodwind perfectly. It doesn’t come with the BBQ, but it’s a particularly worthy investment if you intend to keep it on your patio or garden. Composed of a weather-resistant liner and hat, when we’ve used it, it’s held up well to the effects of cold, wet weather, as well as wind and mildew.
