A DIY rotisserie smoker will take your home smoking to a whole new level. Whether it ‘s BBQ smoked chicken or slow turkey, you’ve never tasted anything like it.

Building a rotisserie smoker yourself means that YOU need to have certain materials and also the knowledge. we will talk about that in this article. Let’s get to the point, okay?

What is a rotisserie smoker?

A rotisserie smoker is an outdoor cooking appliance that allows YOU to cook meat on a rotisserie by rotating it while it smokes and cooks. You can cook meat for hours with this handy outdoor tool, which means you save the energy you would use trying to cook in your kitchen oven.

It’s a great way to cook food slowly while saving energy. Grilling also helps impart a smoky flavor to your meat better than any cooking method you can employ. Smoking the meat gives a juicy and tender result, thanks to the long hours the meat surrounds the smoke. It may take longer than you’re used to, but it’s worth it.

Why should I build a rotisserie smoker?

Buying a ready-made smoker grill can get expensive. That’s why it’s helpful to pull out the DIY instructions and see the best way to build your own. Let’s take a look at everything you need to build a barbecue masterpiece.

Materials they need

To make the body of the grill, the lid and the grill in specific materials. You will need 25 cinder blocks 8″ x 8″ x 16″, a rope, 4 or 8 wooden or metal stakes, 4.8″ x 8″ x 8″ blocks, 15 caps 8″ x 8″ by 16″ or standard blocks. If you wish, you can also add 22 12″ x 12″ patio stones. This should build the body.

Cinder Block is a classic material that we’ve used for many of our backyard kitchen projects, including our Best DIY BBQ Islands.

The next materials they need to build the well. To do this, you will need a metal pipe, preferably 4 feet by 1.5 inches, and also 2 to 3 cubic feet of sand or gravel. To make the lid, SHE can use a food-grade steel drum, an angled iron that measures 20 feet by 1.5 inches. Find high-temperature spray paint, a metal hockey stick, two pieces of threaded rods, and 4.5″ x 5/16″ screws. You should also make sure you have metal stakes and extended rebar.

Tools they need

  • Safety clothing(e.g. gloves, goggles and anything else to protect yourself)
  • Short level
  • Long level
  • Tape measure
  • Chisel
  • Carpenters square
  • Handheld grinder
  • Writing tool for marking points(a permanent marker should do)
  • Metal cutting disc
  • Hammer
  • Metal or wooden poles

Step-by-step instructions

The dimensions are given as a guide, you can increase or decrease them depending on the size of the pit you want to build. The first thing YOU need to choose is the right spot, away from trees or anything else that could catch fire once you start doing it.

Once you’ve locked down your location, you can prepare to lay the groundwork. Make sure the floor is level. YOU can ensure this by laying the patio/walkway stones. The stones prevent the cinder blocks from sliding into the hole.

You can then use the marking tape and stakes to stake out the area around the patio stones. This is the measure of how big the finished product will be. After laying out the patio stones, you can now start digging the hole. About 1 foot deep should be enough.

You can now line the hole with the expanded metal and rebar. These prevent the sand from collapsing along the walls. Then fill the hole with gravel or sand. Once this IS done you can start stacking the cinder blocks around the outside of the hole according to the blueprint. When laying the cinder blocks, you also need to make sure that they are level. To remove bumps, you can use a chisel and hammer.

The concrete blocks are stacked on top of each other without mortar. So it’s important to make sure the blocks are level and fit tightly together. When laying out the blocks, you should also make sure to leave room on the wall to hold the rotisserie skewer. Also, drill a half-inch hole on either side of the top row for attaching the hinge brackets.

Now make the grill. Use a steel tube with holes drilled along its length. You can then weld a gear to the other end of the tube. Make sure you have the necessary support drilled into the ground at both ends. You can then add horizontal arms to the tubes, as well as V-shaped supports that can hold the tube while it rotates and the meat cooks. The length and height you choose is entirely up to you depending on what you want to cook.

For the lid, cut the drum in half lengthwise. Here SHE can now make the hinged lid from the angle iron and the threaded rod. The hockey stick can be used as a handle and attached to the drum with screws and a copper tube.

You can rotate the lid by welding the threaded rods to the back of the lid and then inserting them into the vertical hinge mounts on the sides of the cinder blocks. Just make sure it’s well secured.
